The trail takes you through lush forests, glaciers, and small Sherpa villages, offering breathtaking views along the way. It’s a top adventure choice in the Himalayan region, allowing you to explore the stunning Makalu Barun National Park.
The 19-day Mera Peak Climbing journey starts with a day of sightseeing in Kathmandu, where you’ll visit UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The next day, you’ll take a short flight to Lukla and begin trekking towards the Barun Region, passing through Sherpa villages like Chutang and Kothe.
As you trek through the pristine Makalu Barun National Park, you might spot rare wildlife like the Red Panda. From Khare, you’ll ascend to Mera Peak Base Camp, tackling snow moraines and crevasses along the way. Using ice-axes, crampons, and fixed ropes, you’ll summit the peak and enjoy panoramic views of the Barun valley and nearby peaks like Everest and Lhotse.
After reaching the summit, you’ll descend back to Lukla via Khare, Kothe, and Zatrwa La Pass. The trip ends back in Kathmandu. Mera Peak is best climbed during the spring and autumn seasons.
