The Shivapuri day hike is a popular activity in the Kathmandu valley, known for its serene surroundings and natural beauty. Spanning across 159 square kilometers, Shivapuri National Park offers a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Our journey begins with a visit to Budhanikantha, located 8 kilometers north of Kathmandu. Here, you can explore the Budhanikantha temple, famous for its statue of Lord Vishnu sleeping in a pond. As we hike uphill, we reach the park entrance where we check our permits and enter. Along the way, you’ll hear the sounds of nature, from the crunching of leaves to the chirping of birds.
Inside the park, you’ll find a diverse range of wildlife, including over 500 species of birds and animals like Indian leopards, jungle cats, Hanuman Langurs, and wild boars. Our hike takes us to Nagi Gompa, the highest point at 2330 meters, where you can learn about Buddhism and interact with monks.
The hike is suitable for all skill levels, but the trails can be slippery, so it’s essential to be cautious. After exploring Nagi Gompa, we make our way back to the park entrance and return to our hotel, concluding our trip.
Mountain Trail Nepal is renowned for offering high-quality trekking experiences at affordable prices. The Shivapuri hike provides travelers with an opportunity to connect with nature and gain a fresh perspective of the Kathmandu valley.
