Tsum Valey Trek

Tsum Valley is a hidden Buddhist kingdom nestled in the remote corner of the Nepalese Himalayas. It was opened to tourists in 2008, so much of its natural beauty remains untouched. The Tsum Valley Trek is an exciting adventure that takes you through the stunning landscapes of Ganesh Himal, Shringi Himal, and Boudha Himal ranges. Moreover, you’ll get to experience the rich culture of the valley, which has preserved its ancient traditions.

The 20-day trek starts with your arrival in Kathmandu. After a scenic tour of Kathmandu’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites, you’ll head to Arughat Bazaar in the Gorkha district. From there, the trek takes you north towards Lower and Upper Tsum. Along the way, you’ll pass through traditional villages like Soti Khola, Machha Khola, Jagat, Chisopani, Chumling, Chhokang Paro, and the Nile before reaching Mu Gompa. Mu Gompa is home to the largest monastery in the area and is close to the Tibetan border in the north. Tsum Valley has a deep Buddhist heritage, with legends of the Buddhist saint Milarepa meditating in the mountain caves. The valley also houses the Kyimu Lung pilgrimage circuit.

After exploring Mu Gompa and its surroundings, you’ll descend through Burgi, Chumling, Philim, Khorlabesi, and Soti Khola back to Arughat. The trek reaches its highest point at Milarepa Cave (3700m), offering breathtaking views of Ganesh Himal, Shringi Himal, and Boudha Himal ranges. The people of the valley, known as ‘Tsumbas’, are known for their rich cultural heritage. Additionally, the region boasts ancient Buddhist monasteries like Rachen Gompa, Mu Gompa, and Dephu Doma Gompa.
